Central West Music Makers

When you’re an Outback kid dreaming of musical stardom – the bright city lights can seem a long way from the bush.

But together, a group of musical youth in Longreach are narrowing that distance.

They make up a collective known as Central West Music Makers. It started as a way to put remote youth in touch with professional musical mentors through workshops and programs – and has grown into so much more.

Positive outcomes such as camaraderie, bonding and renewed purpose have been the result – along with the opportunity to perform at Outback festivals, events and tourist attractions – including Smithy’s Outback Dinner, one of the authentic outback experiences offered by Outback Aussie Tours.

Recently, 5 members of the CWMM won scholarships from QMusic to attend Australia’s foremost festival of new music, Big Sound – held in Brisbane.

While in town, the CWMM posse had the chance to busk for audiences in Fortitude Valley – and see some of the city sights, including a City Cat excursion to New Farm Park and the old Brisbane Powerhouse.
