Queensland’s Outback is an absolute blockbuster when it comes to holiday destinations – so what better setting for the world’s only Outback film festival dedicated to the Australian movie industry?
The tiny town of Winton plays host to Hollywood stars, directors, would-be auteurs and avid movie fans as the evocative venue for the annual Vision Splendid Outback Film Festival.
Getting top billing at every festival is the town’s grand old dame, The Royal Theatre – a more-than-century-old open-air cinema which is being lovingly restored by a consortium of community members and the Evert family, whose grandfather built the existing theatre in the 1930’s.
Work on restoring the theatre goes on – with a fundraising venture called BrickCoin, where donors can sponsor one of the original bricks in the Royal’s floor.
The cinema is the centre of attention for the festival’s red carpet opening night – and the main venue for viewings of new Aussie film releases and old favourites throughout the 9-day celebration.
Acting and writing masterclasses complete the agenda for this unique film festival.
In 2023, Vision Splendid marks 10 years – and it’s just one in a swag of Outback festivals you’ll find on the It’s Live in Queensland website.
