It’s Live in Queensland – August

Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week

Sensational sailing, the music industry’s latest sounds and stunning beach-front sculpture are your lot for this month’s It’s Live in Queensland calendar of upcoming festivals and events.

Unfurl those spinnakers for the annual Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week.

Sleek yachts battle it out in the Coral Sea off Townsville in what’s known as the ‘relaxed’ regatta to close off Queensland’s ‘Season of Sailing’.

For the not-so-nautical, Magnetic Island hosts a feast of on-shore, family-friendly fun – including mud crab races, sandcastle building contests and much more.

The 15th annual Sealink Magnetic Island Race Week runs from the 1st to the 7th September.

BIGSOUND

Turn it up to 11 for the southern hemisphere’s biggest celebration of new music!
BIGSOUND is set to showcase more than 150 artists in venues across Brisbane’s live music precinct of Fortitude Valley.

And this year, the event turns 21 – a milestone that brings fresh features to the program, including a special country music show.

BIGSOUND blasts into Brisbane from the 6th to the 9th September.

SWELL Sculpture Festival

SWELL Sculpture Festival is also celebrating a birthday in 2022 – 20 years of bringing Queensland’s biggest outdoor sculpture exhibition to the sands of Currumbin Beach from the 9th to the 18th September.

More than 100 artists – from grass-roots to world-renowned – will delight the public with 65 large scale contemporary pieces.

There’ll also be guided twilight walks, artist talks and workshops – in a festival that connects people, art and place.

Whether you’re into art, sport, culture, food or music, there’s a festival and event in Queensland that’s a perfect fit for you.
