Meet the woman behind Brisbane label, Styling You

If the words “Styling You” ring a bell, then you’re bound to know Nikki Parkinson Brisbane blogger, author and now designer of Styling You the Label.

Since leaving her 20-year journalism career behind in 2008, Nikki’s been busy building an online community around helping busy women, like herself, get out the door each day looking and feeling the best they can… and the best part is her new label caters for women of sizes 8-18!

Now entering her 12th year in business, Nikki has reflected on some of her greatest milestones – including publishing her own book, Unlock Your Style. Just recently she also moved her business (and team!) into their first showroom in Paddington, allowing them to meet with customers face-to-face and to also hold local events.

Though given the current climate, online is the best place to check out the label right now, but as well as that, Nikki is also very passionate about supporting other independent labels.

Brisbane is just such a hub of creativity in that respect. There are so many labels, and I’m friends with the designers who need our support right now… because they are small operations, but they bring the diversity and the inclusivity into fashion and styling – and I really want those labels to stay around. I truly get not everyone is going to have money to spend on new clothes right now, but there are so many ways you can support your favourite labels.”

Some alternate ways you can support those brands is by wearing some of their clothes purchased from previous seasons… and if you’re game enough, post them online and tag that business! It’s all about spreading the love. You can also show your support by liking or sharing their posts on social media. And if you do still have a job and see something online you really like, then hop on board and buy from an independent label… you will feel good getting dressed up and help businesses stay afloat – even if it’s to go work in the room next door!
