Our guide to Newrybar, New South Wales

The country town of Newrybar was discovered in the 1880s and while it still retains its country charm, it has adopted Byron Bay’s laid-back style.

Getting there:

  • Just under 2 hours drive from Brisbane
  • 1 hr 10 mins from the Gold Coast
  • 20 mins from Byron Bay

Places to see while you’re there:

Newrybar Merchants brings together the work of local artists and creatives in a unique retail space. The 1890’s dwelling has been converted into a collaborative concept store that brings together like-minded people. The “merchants” include On the Mesa Market, Tigmi Trading, Small Wonder, Imprint House, Uscha, Our Little Flower Farm, The Merchant General, The Toy Room, Of the Sun, Alcana and Doghouse.

Harvest is another establishment that supports local growers and suppliers. The restaurant, bakery and deli sources produce from local artisan producers and the restaurant’s own garden. All of these spaces work together cohesively to support each other.

If you’re looking for somewhere to stay, we’d recommend Byron at Byron which is just over 15 minutes’ drive from Newrybar. This beautiful resort forms part of the Crystalbrook Collection, a series of luxury hotels dotted around Australia. The resort is situated only a stone’s throw from the beach but is surrounded by lush, tropical rainforest, so you can enjoy the best of both worlds. During a stay, guests can enjoy complimentary yoga classes and guided rainforest walks. There’s also an onsite Day Spa and restaurant, so there’s little need to leave the resort.
