Come November, the beaches from Bundaberg all the way up to the Great Barrier Reef become alive with action as thousands of turtles come ashore to nest.
Wait another 8 weeks, and little babies hatch and make the dash down the beach to the ocean.
With survival rates of just 1 in 1000, they need all the help they can get.
Quoin island, just a 15 minutes cruise across the Gladstone Harbour, is home to a turtle rehabilitation centre that has seen some 200 animals come through its doors.
Injured turtles are brought in and assessed, before being treated and helped on their way to recovery by a handful of devoted volunteers.
If you live in the Gladstone region and come across an injured turtle, please call them to work out what you should do, and how you can help.
