Riding in an army tank on Mt Tamborine

Step 1. Buy an army tank.
Step 2. Give friends rides in said tank.

End of story.

Tim Wood has led an interesting life – growing up, he was one of the best BMX riders in the world, being the first person to do a full loop on a BMX bike, he’s always lived life for the adventure.

Upon retiring the competitive BMX circuit, he did what any ordinary bloke would do and shouted himself a gift – a 52-tonne war machine, in the way of an ex-service Vietnam tank.

The novelty of owning a tank lent itself to giving mates free rides around his property in Tamborine Village, however, these machines are thirsty and being shouted in beers and high fives wasn’t going to pay the fuel bills.

Enter Tank Ride, one of the only places in Australia where you can cruise, hoon or swim your way around picturesque Tamborine in massive machines designed to take on any terrain. Tim tells us he’s got the best job in the world- he bloody loves tanks.

“I get so much enjoyment out of it,” he said. “My kids do, too.”

But what does Tim’s wife say when he’s purchased another tank, in the ever-growing collection?

“My wife, she’s just like, ‘Oh my goodness, not again. Here we go again.'”

Ride all 20 of the tanks — see TankRide.com.au for more details.
