New Sunshine Coast festival lets chefs and producers ‘step up to the plate’

Food rarely far from your mind? The Curated Plate – the Sunshine Coast’s newest culinary festival – is a fresh way to indulge your inner-gourmet or gourmand.

The main four-day event celebrates the relationship between chefs and local producers with a smorgasbord of more than 50 events right across the region; from the sands of Noosa to the rich volcanic soils of the hinterland.

During the festival, Australia’s best-loved food ambassadors and international guest chefs work their culinary magic with the Sunny Coast’s incredible artisan produce. There’s everything from salt-spray-fresh seafood to exotic fruits like feijoas (for the uninitiated, they’re like a cross between a guava, pear and banana).

One of the highlights of the program is the Food Fair – held, in this inaugural year, under the shady trees of Cotton Tree at Maroochydore.

Pop-up stalls from local eateries serve enticing tastes that span everything from house-made gelato to Filipino BBQ.  Masterclasses and cooking demonstrations, run by visiting chefs, share the skills to creating amazing flavours in the familiar surrounds of your own kitchen.

Beyond the fair, there’s the chance to do your own food foraging – visiting farms and producers across the Sunshine Coast.

The destination is as delicious as the festival’s fare – which means a stay on the Sunny Coast during The Curated Plate is all too tempting.

Why not settle in at the Mantra Mooloolaba? Spacious 1, 2 and 3-bedroom apartments take in fabulous ocean views and will put you right in striking distance of all the festivities.

The Curated Plate returns to the Sunshine Coast again in August 2020.
