Volunteers for the Ocean

As Aussies, we love our beaches and waterways, and when you love something, you look after it – right?

Volunteers for the Ocean is calling on people-power to clean up 1 million square metres of the Australian coastline in 2020 – with 20 massive beach clean-ups across five Australian states this summer.

The work’s already in full swing – with volunteers taking to the sands of Shaw Island, near Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays. Lee Carseldine recently got involved to help protect our planet.

Around 164 kilograms of plastic and waste was removed from 20,000 square metres of coastline, in one of Queensland’s most beautiful destinations.

And that’s just the start… Roughly 400kg of plastic waste ends up in Australian oceans every hour – so plenty of helping hands are needed to protect paradise from marine pollution. Find out how you can get involved here.
