Walkabout Cultural Adventures

Spend a day with Juan Walker on one of his Walkabout Cultural Adventures, and you’re tapping into a lifetime of knowledge and stories, that he learned at the knees of his elders.

Juan’s full or half-day guided tours in the Port Douglas Daintree region are intimate in size, and feel very personal, as he walks and talks on the land that indigenous Kuku Yalanji people have been raised on, for thousands of years.

Language, bush medicine and hunting and gathering methods are all weaved into his storytelling.

On the mudflats and in the mangroves of Cooyar Beach, there are lessons in how to throw a spear, how to trap a mud crab, and what other seafoods and bush foods have been a stable of local indigenous diets for generations.

Once he’s gathered a collection of snacks, Juan takes his mini bus into the Daintree, and sets up on the bank of the beautiful Mossman River, for more storytelling, and to cook his tucker over a campfire.

Juan Walker is a talented teacher and Walkabout Cultural Adventures is an essential activity if you’re holidaying in the Port Douglas area.
