“A Brilliant Life” by Rachelle Unreich

Lee and Victoria weren’t the only ones to love “A Brilliant Life” by Rachelle Unreich … Here is what the QBD crew thought:

A beautiful and inspiring biography, “A Brilliant Life” is told by journalist Rachelle Unreich, about her mother’s miraculous life and survival in four concentration camps, including Auschwitz.

Rachel always thought there was a mystery to her mother’s, Mira’s, survival, and it seemed connected in some way to the strange things that always happened around her. Unbelievably, when Mira gave testimony about the Holocaust decades later, she said that it was during this time that she learned about ‘the goodness of people’. Born in Czechoslovakia, Mira Blumenstock was twelve years old when World War II broke out. She would live a full life in Paris and Australia. Then, at eighty-eight, she was diagnosed with terminal cancer. Rachelle interviewed Mira to distract her from her illness, and what she discovered about her mother was breathtaking. Not only did Rachelle begin to understand Mira’s past, but she was able to fit together the jigsaw puzzle pieces of her own life.

This powerful story reminds us of the incredible resilience of the soul and the ability of the heart to heal. “A Brilliant Life” is an ode to the unbreakable bond between a mother and child and questions the role that chance, and destiny play in one’s life. We highly recommend!
