Commonwealth Games Townsville

Townsville has plenty to offer holidaymakers with its long sunny days and relaxed vibe.  Come April, there’s even more reason to visit when the 2018 Commonwealth Games comes to town.

While most of the competition will be held on the Gold Coast, Townsville will host the Basketball preliminaries event.  Teams from around the globe will head north to the tropics to participate at the Townsville Entertainment & Convention Centre.

Working behind the scenes is Tafe Qld, the official training partner for the games providing more than 15,000 volunteers.  One such volunteer is Tafe Qld’s Susan Kinobe – a Townsville local and mad basketball fan.  Susan has volunteered at many major international events as a basketball score table official.  On her brag list is the Sydney Olympics, Paralympics, Goodwill Games and she will soon add the GC2018.

For information on becoming a future volunteer head to Tafe Qld’s website.

If you are planning on heading to Townsville to see some A-class slam dunks and you want to stay in the thick of all the excitement – The Ville Resort is the place, located right next to the entertainment centre on the water’s edge.
