How to see the best of Brisbane in a day

Brisbane is home to so many fantastic things, that when you arrive in Brisbane for a day it can be hard to decide what to do. While your Brisbane bucket-list is no doubt never-ending, here are some fantastic experiences that you cannot go past.

Queensland Gallery of Modern Art (GOMA)

Brisbane’s art gallery (GOMA) is a must-visit on a day trip to Brisbane. Most of the exhibitions are free and focus on the contemporary art of Australia, Asia and the Pacific. It is perfect for the whole family with a brilliant Children’s Art Centre, that houses activities just for kids. We can guarantee that they will never want to leave!

South Bank

From there, head right and go for a walk along the River. Take in the beautiful City views as you wander along, catching a glimpse of Brisbane’s CityCats as they whiz by. Eventually, you will hit South Bank, where you could easily spend a few hours exploring.

In South Bank, we would recommend exploring the Parklands. Here you will find Streets Beach, which is a great place for a dip on a hot Summer’s day, as well as 17 hectares of beautiful lush gardens. If you feel like a birds-eye view of the area, the Wheel of Brisbane will give you a beautiful outlook on the City and surrounds.

If all of that walking has built up an appetite, there are dozens of fantastic food options on offer along Little Stanley Street and Grey Street.

Queen Street Mall

Across the water is Brisbane’s shopping mecca, with over 700 retailers spread along the mall! If shopping is on your agenda, then you are going to want to swing in here. On Queen Street Mall, you can hit up the big international brands such as Uniqlo and H&M, as well as all of the local favourites.

If you want to see a piece of history in between the shops, cross Adelaide Street to King George Square to see the Brisbane City Hall. The Hall was built between 1920 and 1930, is registered on the Register of the National Estate.

Story Bridge

While you are in Brisbane, you need to catch a glimpse of the Story Bridge. From Queen St Mall, walk ten minutes north-east along Queen Street, to Riverland, a great beer garden with an even better view. Here you can get a beautiful view of the Bridge and river down below while indulging in something delicious from one of the five shipping containers serving street food. If that does not tickle your fancy though, there are dozens of other bars and restaurants along the water that have an equally magnificent view.

Riverland Bar
