Kalki Moon Distilling and Brewing Company

There must be something in the water in Bundaberg.  The city that has long supported an iconic rum distillery and famous ginger beer, now has a relatively new micro distillery that is already making a big name for itself.

Kalki Moon Distilling and Brewing Company is a family owned and operated gin joint that won Gold at the 2018 international Wine and Spirits competition in London, for its Classic Gin.

It also won Gold in 2018 at the Australian Distilled Spirits competition, for its London Dry Gin.

Rick Prosser puts 18 years of experience and a whole lot of love into his selection of gins, and vodkas.  Along with the obligatory juniper berries, his unique gin blends include locally sourced botanicals, like the aromatic lemon mertyl grown in abundance by Fiona Walker on her farm ‘Flavours of Bundaberg’.

Rick’s recipes were perfected over multiple small batch distillations, and now they are in hot demand from distributors across Australia.

His spent botanicals are incorporated into a goat milk soap, that’s available at the distillery.

He says that local craft industries (be they bakeries, breweries or distilleries) are gaining more traction with the increased emphasis from diners on understanding the journey from paddock to plate…. or glass.

So visitors to the family’s cellar door are welcome to look behind the scenes at how the award-winning tipple is produced.
