Retro Sunshine Coast

The surf culture of the 60’s is alive and well on the Sunshine Coast, thanks to retro-inspired operators like Old Skool Kombis. Ride a wave of nostalgia in Scott Montague’s classic 1966 VW Kombi, on one of his Surfing Safari tours of the Sunshine Coast. The Kombi is also available for special event hire – including weddings and birthdays.

At Noosa Heads’ Hastings Street, you’ll find a shrine to all-things-surfing at Noosa Longboards – a great store packed with classic surfboards and cool surfing, aloha and rock-n-roll memorabilia. You can also hire, for special occasions, the restored 1946 Ford Woody Station Wagon that’s parked out the front.

There’s plenty of cool coffee ‘hangs’ on the sunny coast, but if you want to combine a coffee with some fruit and veg shopping, head to the Bent Banana & Skul Café at Peregian Beach.

Out in the hinterland at Palmwood, you’ll find a classic burger joint straight out of the 50s. Try Rick’s famous burger weighing in at over 2 kilos! It’s not just the burgers that are big, there’s around 300 grams of ice-cream in every shake. It’s open 7 days a week from 10am.

Mention Queensland Weekender when you hire a Kombi from Old Skool Kombis Noosa, to receive $50 off.
