School holidays on the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail

With school holidays around the corner, it’s time to think about how to keep the kids entertained – and active!

Why not give the Brisbane Valley Rail Trail a go?

The 161 km off-road adventure trail follows a disused section of railway, stretching from Wulkuraka near Ipswich, to Yarraman, near Kilcoy.  It’s an ideal trail for walking, horse-riding and cycling.

Experienced bike riders can tackle the whole thing over a couple of days, staying in charming country towns along the way.

For the less athletic, why not give a smaller section a try?

Highlights include the heritage tunnel near Yimben; Lockyer Creek Railway Bridge near Clarendon; quaint restored stations; and tranquil stretches of bushland.  You may be lucky enough to spy a koala on the way!

All that pedaling is sure to get your tummy rumbling. Picnic Society in Toogoolawah can whip up a bespoke gourmet spread, or box up a picnic for you to lay out when you find a shady spot along the trail. The café is also open on weekends.

Your RACQ membership will come in handy if you happen to run into trouble on the track, as bike and mobility rescues are now a standard inclusion in their premium roadside assistance products.

And you can use your RACQ Membership at 99 Bikes to get a discount on full priced gear. They can get you sorted with all your cycling needs before you hit the trail these school holidays.
