Snakes Downunder – the Childers zoo home to 45 different species!

When Ian Jenkins was a child growing up in Kenya, he became fascinated with snakes. And he carried that love into adulthood and created Snakes Downunder Reptile Park and Zoo.

It sits just five hundred metres off the Bruce Highway near the town of Childers. The zoo boasts 45 species and subspecies of Australian reptiles, amphibians and marsupials.

It’s a small zoo that has retained its personal feel. It offers a range of experiences that include croc feeding, meerkats encounters, koala encounters, snake shows and handling, as well as feeding kangaroos.

It also has a snake exhibit that houses some of the deadliest snakes in the world. The zoo is a great place to pull up for a few hours with the family, especially if you’re on a long drive up the coast.

It’s open every day except Wednesdays and some public holidays. Tickets cost $15 for kids (4-12) and $25 for adults.
