Each year humpback whale numbers off the Queensland coast get stronger, which means that when Sunreef at Mooloolaba offers guests the opportunity to snorkel on the whale highway, there’s now a very strong chance that the experience will be mind-blowing.
Once one or two of the majestic mammals are spotted, a maximum of twenty swimmers on each trip can drift in a group, within reach of the boat, at a non-threatening distance.
Often the curious creatures will approach them and the close encounter that comes with swimming over the top of such a huge animal is unforgettable.
Sunreef’s Swim with Whales season runs from July until October. The company is based on Parkyn Parade at Mooloolaba, and that’s where their boat is moored.
