Pedal Power in Paradise

Hervey Bay is a big blue playground – and a favourite of boaties, anglers and whale-watching tourists.

But land-lubbers can have an adventure in the bay too.

Hire a conventional bike or electric bicycle from

Hervey Bay Rent-a-Car – and start exploring the bay’s 15 kilometres of paved cycle paths…

One of the most popular pathways stretches along the Esplanade, from Point Vernon to historic Urangan Pier. The shared trail weaves through shady parkland, with sea glimpses along the way. Stop and refuel at one of the many cafes along the way.

A short detour will take you to Hervey Bay’s Botanic Gardens in Elizabeth Street. This 26-hectare green space is well worth a visit – with its impressive Chinese formal garden, grassy lawns, water features and a beautiful Orchid House. The Orchid House features flowering beauties from the gardens’ collection of more than 5,000 orchids – the biggest and best public collection in Australia.

From the gardens, it’s just a short ride to the start of another Hervey Bay cycling path – a section of the “Mary to Bay” Rail Trail.

This inland path is a gentle ride back towards the town centre – following the old rail line that once ferried goods to and from ships at Urangan Pier.

If you’re tempted by an active Hervey Bay lifestyle, check out Fraser Shores – a retirement community-based in the bay.
