Toowoomba on the Darling Downs is known and loved for its country town vibe – but once a year, at the start of spring, Queensland’s “Garden City” literally bursts into full bloom.
The city’s Carnival of Flowers is a ten-day celebration that takes place in September each year. It sees an eruption of floral colour across Toowoomba’s public parks and private gardens.

A signature event of the Carnival is the 90-minute Main Parade where crowds of more than 100,000 people line the streets to glimpse a cavalcade of colourful floats – worked on for weeks and months leading up to the event.

When it comes time to disassemble the beautiful floats, there’s a silver lining: the flowers are sold off to Carnival attendees.

Make sure you mark the start of September on your calendar for next year’s Toowoomba Carnival of Flowers.
